Damn DMX

IF I could, I would look past certain things in the media. But, if I do, I look like a fool in this day and age. Basically, DMX had to show up at court a few days ago and when he did, he did the unthinkable. He busted out a freestyle rap, according to reports. Certainly, none of us were there, but you can’t help but think that he looked like a Crack Head.
"If and when you ever fall down/ Get back up / Drop something/ Stop fretting/ Pick that ... back up/ Stand for something or fall for everything/ Wait for the right pitch or miss with every swing."He said, “fretting.” X is looking at time for recently being charged with two felony theft charges in a Phoenix courtroom on Thursday. He plead not guilty.

Marc Jacobs on the Cover of Interview Magazine

The latest issue of Interview magazine features on the cover a barely recognizable Marc Jacobs covered in make up and dressed as a drag. Something particularly interesting about this cover is that, Marc Jacobs was intentionally made to resemble the founder of the magazine, legendary pop artist Andy Warhol, to celebrate the 80th birthday for the publication. The photos were shot by Mikael Jansson; and the photos will also go on sale in the form of a printed tee and tote bag at the Marc Jacobs Bleecker Street store in New York from Thursday, with all proceds going to the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh. Check out the images below.

Interview with Matt George- Stussy Vancouver

With the Stussy x Neighborhood Boneyards 2nd drop taking place July 19th, we had an opportunity for a little Q & A with Matt George, the mastermind behind Stussy’s recent representation in th Great White North. In a relatively short period of time, Matt George has expanded his empire to include over ten different entities within Canada which present one of the strongest foundations in the industry. To correspond with the Boneyards collection launch, Matt George’s United Front reveals the quick turn-around as well as the regional relevancy of having a Vancouver station for the Boneyards series. We also touch briefly on large impact enjoyed by streetwear through Canada and what the future holds. Check the interview after the jump as well as a sneak peek into the upcoming products.

How far back did you begin to organize things for Stussy Vancouver?

Vancouver was always on the plate at least in my own conversations in my head. We had planned to wait at least a year after the Toronto Chapter opening or as long as it took for a perfect space to present itself. I was sitting in a meeting with Stussy in Irvine and I get a email from my real-estate broker asking me if I know anyone who wanted a space across the street from the other stores I have in Vancouver. The space is perfect in many ways so we couldn’t pass it up. This was 4 months ago so my crew literally had to drop what they where doing to start organizing the build out.

Why has Stussy become so well received around the world and been able to remain relevant over so many years?

That’s a really tough question. I think it is because they have always had a consistent message and consistent distribution plan. Fundamentally pretty simple when you think about it. We see so many brands doing the opposite right now.

Does Vancouver and Toronto both share some similarities between the whole East Coast/West Coast vibe?

This could be turn into an hour-long conversation. The only similarity I feel is that both cities are in Canada. Just kidding. It’s just that Canada already has a more laid back but very conservative feel to the country in general. Then add a traditional West Coast “vibe” to it and your moving real slow out in Vancouver. For example today’s Monday and the sun’s out. Everyone’s on an extended lunch. Try doing a build out in this town. Haha. It’s next to impossible.

How has the Canadian scene matured in the last few years? Where would you like to see things progress?

Everyone moves at their own pace. Outside of my companies it’s tough to tell you where I would like to see other people aiming. I know where we need to be and am pushing to get to, but I’m not going to pass too much judgment on other people and what they do. I’m in business or continue to work on projects for anyone other than my crew. I love seeing more and more shops / art galleries and clothing lines budding in Canada. There is so much talent here and its a way to show the world what Canada is capable of.

What sort of concept did you have in mind for the Vancouver Boneyards Pop Up Store? Do you think the whole Gas Town aesthetic fits in with the theme of Boneyards?

Gas Town is the perfect place to do the project store, but Vancouver in general fits with what Rob, Paul and Shin have put together. Vancouver has the beach community, has a huge skate scene and is deeply rooted in Punk, Oldies and Art. It’s the closest place to southern California I have ever visited.

What sort of items will be seen in the Boneyards collection?

Boneyards ended up being a full capsule collection that Paul and Shin visualized. They created everything from some beautiful nylon and cotton jackets to Japan selvedge denim. Nike also came to table and have created both a Blazer and Terminator for the project.

How does Stussy Vancouver and Toronto position itself within the whole United Front movement? Can you explain what exactly the United Front is?

Stussy is a great addition to the cluster of stores and brands we already operate and are growing. Being involved with Stussy sets such a high level of expectations for my crew that it has really made everyone step up. We are learning a lot, especially working on a project like Boneyards on how brands should create energy and excitement in the marketplace. United Front is a blanket that I can throw over all my businesses and my involvement in other activities the crew is involved in. United Front houses a few different businesses. Goodfoot, Ransom, Nomad, Nvsble Tailors and Stussy – these are the most visible side of what UF is and does. We also have a division that is Design / Consulting and Construction based that has worked on the Canadian Olympic teams garb for 2008 to building and designing stores for other companies. Pretty much we stay busy!

DMC Emergency Surgery

Reps for DMC have confirmed to AllHipHop.com that the rapper was admitted to a New Jersey hospital on Thursday July 18.

DMC, age 44, arrived complaining of severe pain and swelling in his left arm.

Management for DMC told AllHipHop.com that the rapper started experiencing pain in his left arm as early as last Sunday.

After two days of suffering, the DMC’s arm became noticeably swollen, resulting the rapper seeing a doctor, who diagnosed two dangerous blood clots in the rapper’s arm.

When blood thinning medication did not work, doctors decided that surgery was the best option to reduce the swelling in DMC’s arm and to prevent the clot from moving any further.

As press time, the DMC is doing well and recovering in Wayne, New Jersey.

Although he is otherwise healthy, DMC will undergo tests to determine the cause of the blood clots, a medical condition he has never had to contend with.

As one-third of the legendary Run-DMC, DMC (Darrel McDaniels) helped cultivate Hip-Hop music throughout the 80’s and brought the culture to the mainstream.

They are the first Hip-Hop act to achieve RIAA certification (gold, platinum, and multi-platinum), sign an endorsement deal (adidas), appear on MTV, and land a Top 10 charting album.

Friday the 27th of June at PROVIDER TRAINERS marked the Melbourne launch of the BLACK BEAST Blaze of Glory! What ensured was 2 hours of solid drinking courtesy of Grolsh Beer with obligatory treks to the nearby bottle shop for extra cases of liquid gold, to satisfy all us shark heads down under. The easiest way to divvy up the 12 pairs available on the night was with a good old-fashioned raffle to select the dozen lucky freaks that would cop the Black Beast. Big ups to Provider for holding the event, the SNKRFRKR fam who proudly showed off their Sharkskin Blaze of Glorys and of course all the Freakers and Freakettes who rocked up in the blistering cold, to celebrate the sequel to the Jirosame Launch. CLOCK? I heard a crazy rumor that Edner "Cherry Bomb" Cherry snuffed Floyd Mayweather. I don’t know if that’s true. Floyd is the best pound for pound (or is that “was”). That’s in the ring though.
THE I-N-C: Rumor has it Max B may have found a recording home in The Inc records with Irv Gotti.
NAS IS HOT! Nas got that heat! I heard his recent concert in NYC was so hot that people were nearly passing out. Apparently the AC wasn’t working for about two weeks.
GETO: The legendary Geto Boys are working on a new album – a reunion album, at that.
SIGNED: I hear Cassidy is taking his show over to Universal Records.
OFF THE HOOK: Everybody thought Teddy Riley did it, but he didn’t. The fire that destroyed an ailing studio perished by an electrical problem, according to The Virginia-Pilot. Rumors!
GOT IT! Nicole from the Pussy Cat Doll’s has reportedly locked in with Formula One race car driver Lewis Hamilton.
VANDALS: Some New York youth tossed a rock through Madonna’s SUV. She wasn’t in it, but her driver was. Foul.
DRUGS = BAD: Andy Dick was arrested after a 17-year-old girl said Dick grabbed her tank top and bra and pulled them down. Her boobage was exposed! They allegedly found illegal and illicit drugs on homey.
THE REAL GAME: We’re talking about The Game joining Westside Connection and he’s talking about being with his child’s mom and being a family man.
INSTANT CLASSIC:Jay-Z and Timbaland might be doing Jay’s next album in its entirety.
JESSE’S MESSY! I wish Jesse didn’t use the N-Word when referring to Black folk. He’s fought the word for years. Remember when he said, “Fo’ shizzle my nizzle”?
NO N-WORD: Check out http://lifestylzgh.blogspot.com. This is mostly for my African brothers and sisters, but anybody that is down – check it!
SNITCH? Snoop Dogg has reportedly been named as a witness in the murder trial of Bay Area rapper Mac Minister.
RETIRE? Scarface said he’s going to retire. I hope not, but it’s not so bad. You cant have the mind of a lunatic forever…can you? Hope that reunion CD comes out...
9…or 19? Nas is rumored to started smoking weed at the age of nine. Maybe that's why he forgot a lot of raps as his NYC show.
JEAN - COME BACK! Jean Grae is retiring, because she is rumored to be very unhappy with Talib Kweli and the label. I just thought she was quitting!

Bye- Bye to Terrence and Rocsi?

It took some time, but I finally got used to these two and now they are saying they might be fired? I hope not, to be honest. You all know, I used to be in love with Free. Whew. Free. Anyway, people are saying Rocsi was on vacation, but that seems to be a lame cover-up for the indefinite leave she was put under for bouncing last week. She’s expected to be gone for several weeks. She was seen down in Miami at some event. All in all, they OK with me, especially Terrence J. Like I said, I heard Rocsi hates me.

In Beasley, Wade thinks Heat got best player in the draft

Chas Says: Wade Should Rethink What he is saying...I would hate to hear him talk about all of this bull then have another bad season.....Im Out

By the time next season arrives, the only players remaining from the Mimai Heat's title team could be DeWayne Wade and forward Udonis Haslem. Miami also has a new coach in longtime assistant Erik Spoelstra, who replaced Pat Riley. But with four-time All-Star Shawn Marion, rookie guard Mario Chalmers, and most notably, rookie forward Michael Beasley (the second overall pick in the draft), Wade expects the Heat to be turned back up.

"Beasley is the best player in the draft in terms of being ready right now and the future," Wade said. "[The Bulls'] Derrick Rose is an unbelievable talent. [The Grizzlies'] O.J. Mayo is an unbelievable talent. We would have loved to have any one of them. But, of course, we got the pick that was the best player in the draft, we can hang our hats on that and build around him ourselves."

Posey says he wants to return to Celtics

Chas Says: We Really could have used him...but we always got somebody that got to punk out....Im Out.

James Posey and Eddie House, key reserves in the Celtics' NBA championship run last season, last night expressed a desire to remain with the team, in their first public comments regarding free agency.

"That's my No. 1 choice," said Posey. "I've stressed that to the organization and to everybody. At the same time, I'm still waiting. So we'll see what's going to happen."

House and Posey were interviewed before a screening of a highlight DVD of the Celtics' season at TD Banknorth Garden.

Posey played down the possibility of returning to Cleveland, his hometown, though an NBA source said the Cavaliers might up the ante in an effort to get a talented player to aid LeBron James. Other teams interested in Posey include Detroit, New Orleans, Washington, and the Lakers. Mark Bartelstein, who represents both Posey and House, hoped to have something in place yesterday, but he said there was nothing new with either client. Celtics general manager Danny Ainge greeted Posey last night but said there was no news on the situation.

Nas Album Review.

The N****r movement has been a lonely crusade for Nasir Jones. As a younger artist, he was regularly blasted for allegedly selling out his musical integrity. Years later, a mature Nas now sees his attempts to bring relevant social issues to Hip-Hop cynically dismissed as a pseudo gimmick to gain exposure. But after all the comments and discussion, the final word will always be the quality of the music. And with the recently censored album name now christened Untitled (Def Jam), Nas seeks to validate himself after months of intense pressure from fans and media alike.

The album begins with the haunting sparse piano chords of “Queens Get the Money.” The lack of drums makes the track initially sound abrasive; as Nas weaves his rhymes on and off beat. But it is the dissonance of Jay Electronica’s production that accentuates Nas’ lyrics midway. The Queensbridge poet paraphrases elements from Rakim’s classic fourth verse on “My Melody” to take some piercing jabs at former apprentice 50 Cent.

Regular collaborator Salaam Remi delivers a bass heavy, jazz infused rendition of “Can’t Stop Us Now.” The now popular sample has seen recent renditions from MF Doom, Mos Def, and the RZA. However, Remi makes the piece unique by incorporating jazz trumpet chords, the soulful crooning of Eban Thomas of The Stylistics, and the authoritative spoken word of the Last Poets. Nas’ rhymes remain on point as he takes aim at our accepted beliefs on early American patriotism (“Besty Ross sowed the first American flag / Bet she had a n****r with her to help her old ass”).

Recent criticism against Nas’ albums has been his use of somber, demure production, which the Queens MC has made strides in addressing. On the graceful “Breathe,” the melodic rhythms blend effortlessly with his urges for us to “exhale” on the stresses of American life. The celebratory “Make The World Go Round,” by far the most commercial and radio aimed track, works mainly due to the lyrical chemistry between The Game and Nas.

However, the slick production starts to wane thin by the Stargate produced “America.” The continued bombardment of synth originated cadences (especially after the sonorous but enjoyable lead single “Hero”) starts to pull the listener out of the album. Still, Nas’ verses remain potent, especially a standout third verse criticizing the sexism and imperialism of Western society.

The LP gets back on track with the rock-tinged “Sly Fox.” Over PE reminiscent guitar riffs, Nas cleverly assaults the moral authority of Fox News on the basis of their manipulation of news and business dealings with Youtube and Myspace (“Only Fox that I love was the Redd one / Only black man the at Fox love is in jail or a dead one”). With “Testify,” Nas creatively crafts the song in the conversation flow of “Book Of Rhymes,” while questioning whether his fans are ready for social action beyond the music.

First seen on the now classic “I Gave You Power,” Nas’ expertise at personification is once again on display with “Project Roach” and “Fried Chicken.” On the former, the Last Poets appear again to ridicule the NAACP’s “funeral” for the word n****r, while Nas personifies the insect as a metaphor for the derogatory term. With the latter track, Busta Rhymes joins in as both MC’s skewer the stereotype of Black eating habits over Mark Ronson’s southern blues styled production.

The criticism is not just directed outward, as Nas questions his own materialism on the reflective and communal “Y’all My N****s.” He continues that trend on the ethereal, “We’re Not Alone,” where Nas expresses regret at previously glorifying killers like Pappy Mason over figures such as historian Ivan Van Sertima.

On Hip Hop Is Dead, Nas made the mistake of presenting that topic as a loose theme over the album and expecting listeners to pick up subliminal messages. With Untitled, he’s able to not only cohesively explain his stance on the word n****r, but detail its use throughout history on social, political, and judicial levels. And despite the dense subject matter, Nas’ varied lyrical presentations keep the opus from ever becoming preachy or condescending.

Notwithstanding minor missteps in sequencing and production, Untitled has delivered on its potential as a cogent, intellectually honest piece of art. And like its predecessor The N****r Tape, Nasir Jones has crafted not only a career highlight in his catalogue, but the most thought-provoking and challenging mainstream Hip-Hop album in a long time

Carmelo and Cassidy- A New Duo? Lil Wayne Beef?

I don’t know where this quote came from, but I think it is from Cassidy’s recent mixtape with Green Lantern.

"I Just finalized my partnership with Carmelo Anthony, you know the kid who lead the league in scoring, do it big and ball all the time. Yeah, well we just finalized the deal and we bout to make it happen asap."

So, from what I heard Melo is rappin’ now and he’s down with Cassidty. Maybe he got inspired by Shaq’s “Tell Me How My A** Taste” rap. I don’t know. I just hope he is better that Ron Artest, with all respect to the big homey.

Also, it would seem that Cassidy has dissed Lil Wayne. Go to illseed.com for the video. Let me know what you think.

Rick Ross says "I was photoshopped"

Rick Ross has charged that images depicting him as a young correctional officer are totally fabricated, the result of savvy graphic artists.

He told AllHipHop.com exclusively, "My life is 100% real. These online hackers putting a picture of my face when I was a teenager in high school on other peoples' body. If this s**t was real don't you think they would have more specifics, like dates and everything?”

Earlier, a single image was in circulation on the internet suggesting that Ross previously worked as a correctional officer at an unnamed jail or prison.

The Miami-based rap artist, known for his gritty street rhymes, said envious people have conspired against him for his success and stature.

“I'm in the entertainment business and a lot of people who like to hate because I'm on top of my game,” Ross told AllHipHop.com. “Like I said before my life is 100% real. I live by this die by this. Fake pictures are created by the fake, meant to entertain the fake."

While the image appears very realistic, boxer Oscar De La Hoya was involved in a similar scandal that made the pugilist appear to be a cross dresser.

The images were proven to be doctored and De La Hoya was completely exonerated. Ross is already moving on.

He stated that he was working on a new album called Deeper Than Rap, which would come at an undetermined date in the near future.

Terrence J to Say Sorry to Rocsi?

We all know and have now seen the serious tension between Rocsi and Terrence J on BET the other day. I wrote about it over the weekend. After a misstated word after reading from a teleprompter, Terrence J clowned Rocsi for the next 4-5 segments on the show. She finally up and walled off the set leaving T to do a lil’ stuttering himself. He did scoop and impromptu guest host from the crowd after Rocsi left. (You can see this video over at illseed.com too) Well…I heard that a landmark decision has been made… Terrence J has been ordered to apologize for antagonizing his sexy co-host on-air last week. I am not positive, but y’all let me know if this happens. I am going to be unavailable to watch. I think it’s a good move. Say sorry like Yung Berg to the dark butts and its over.

Funk Master Flex Custom Car Show

The annual Funkmaster Flex Custom Car and Bike Show was in full effect the last weekend in June at the Convention & Expo Center in Edison, New Jersey.
Besides all of the breathtaking cars, bikes and model search which brought out a lot of eye candy for the guys, there was also clothing for sale and sneaker battle, which would have left any sneaker junky in heaven.

TTK does a lot of social political pieces. I asked him what inspired his President Bush sneakers and he said, “I don’t agree with some of his policies. On the sneakers I have him preaching democracy, but I spelled it democrazy. Crazy, because over in Iraq we’re not going to go in there and say we’re going to give you democracy and its going to change over night. They're preaching democracy, but overall it’s all about capitalism, that’s why I spelled it capitoilism, its all about the dollar.”

“The Barack Obama’s came to be because we’re a part of history, we are witnessing this right now. My mother was around when Dr. King and other great leaders were, and I know they could never imagine this right here happening in today’s world. This is my piece dedicated to that,” TTK told us. I’m definitely feeling his movement!

Negotiations continue over Verne Troyer sex tape

Negotiations continue over 'Mini Me' actor Verne Troyer sex tapeLawyers for Verne Troyer are negotiating with a porn broker and distributor on a settlement to permanently prevent the distribution of a sex tape the actor made with a former girlfriend.

U.S. District Judge Philip S. Gutierrez on Friday granted both sides another week to negotiate before holding a hearing on whether the tape can be sold or released. He also extended a temporary restraining order barring porn distributor SugarDVD from selling or taking orders for the tape, said Tracy Rane, Troyer's attorney.

Edwin McPherson, another of Troyer's attorneys, said the two sides were discussing a permanent injunction that would keep SugarDVD or Blatt from marketing the tape or still images.

"Mr. Troyer is working to prohibit the release of the full tape," Rane said.

The actor sued porn distributor SugarDVD, broker Kevin Blatt and celebrity gossip Web site TMZ for $20 million last month and sought to have release of the tape barred.

He is best-known for his role as Mini Me in two of the "Austin Powers" movies.

Court records do not list attorneys for SugarDVD or Blatt.

Troyer had claimed the sex tape was stolen from his home, but TMZ presented a statement from his ex-girlfriend, Ranae Shrider, saying she took the tape and authorized parts of its release to TMZ.

TMZ aired parts of the tape on its Web site and TV show, prompting Troyer's lawsuit. A statement on SugarDVD's site claimed it was trying to broker a deal for the tape, but that statement has since been removed.

Pistons Team Report....Chas Is A Detroit Fan

An off-season that began with a bold proclamation has so far produced nothing more than a whimper. A frustrated president of basketball operations Joe Dumars declared there were no sacred cows on his roster after a third consecutive flop in the Eastern Conference Finals. He later amended that statement to exclude second-year point guard Rodney Stuckey.

While there have been plenty of rumors floating around the media and on the Internet regarding potential trades, the Pistons haven’t come close to making a major deal. Dumars doesn’t want to deliver on his goal for shaking things up by making a lateral move.

The month of July has also produced less drama than the Pistons have experienced in many years. The past two seasons, two of their most prominent players (Ben Wallace and Chauncey Billups) were unrestricted free agents.

During the summer of 2005, a contentious, month-long battle developed between head coach Larry Brown and owner Bill Davidson that ended in an ugly divorce. And right after the Pistons won the 2004 title, Rasheed Wallace and Mehmet Okur became free agents.

They made inquiries about the Los Angeles Clippers’ Corey Maggette, but he was out of their price range. They also had an interest in Boston’s James Posey but didn’t want to give a four- or five-year deal to a 31-year-old backup.

It’s still a strong possibility the Pistons will sign a lower-tier free agent for a portion of their mid-level salary exception. One surprising name that has cropped up is ex-Piston Carlos Delfino, whom the Pistons traded to Toronto a year ago.

The Raptors made a qualifying offer to Delfino, a restricted free agent, but have no real desire to retain him. Delfino basically whined his way out of Detroit because of his desire to play more but the Pistons always valued his skills and feel Toronto’s rejection may have humbled the Argentinian swingman.

Notes, Quotes

The Pistons’ summer league roster is loaded and they hope to find out where second-year center Cheikh Samb and rookie small forward Walter Sharpe fit into their plans next season. Samb and Sharpe will join three members of the Pistons’ regular rotation—guards Rodney Stuckey and Arron Afflalo and power forward Amir Johnson—in the starting lineup. They will play five games in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas against the Clippers, Lakers, Bucks, Mavericks and Bobcats.

The 7-foot-1 Samb has the wingspan to be a top-flight shotblocker and he has shown a surprisingly-soft touch on his midrange shots. With improved strength and a year under NBA tutelage, the Pistons are hoping that Samb can crack the rotation next season.

Sharpe was the Pistons’ surprising top draft pick but they have been quietly thrilled with the work ethic and all-around skills he’s shown so far in workouts and practices. If Sharpe plays well in the summer league, the need to acquire a backup small forward would diminish.

Michael Curry achieved his dream of becoming an NBA head coach last month but, sadly, his father will only be there in spirit. James E. Curry, Jr. died of a heart attack in late June. The elder Curry had been staying in Michigan with Michael and his family when he passed away. The burial took place in his hometown of Augusta, G

106 & BEEF

106 & BEEF?
I didn’t personally see this, but my girl Miss LaLa did (Not the female that’s down with Carmelo). She told me the following and you can tell me if you saw it the same way. (I didn’t edit the letter.)
Hey Illseed,
Okay I was just watching 106 and Park, and for most of the show today Terrence was clowning Rocsi. He was checking her about how she was stuttering over her words and asked if she knew how to read told her that her breath stunk and she needed a mint, and asked her why she didn't look as good as Ciara. He continued to roast her, until she finally left off the stage during the 2nd video on the countdown and refused to close out the show. As they were cutting to the number 1 video, he was seen talking to someone off camera and asking why she was acting so overly sensitive. Is there a beef going on behind the scene?
The answer LaLa is: I don’t know! I’m real touchy about these rumors. I heard a rumor that Rocsi hates me and I don’t even dislike her. Oh well!
